 Bad Angels              Good Angels

General statements concerning:

All through the Bible we see angels at work, from the garden of Eden to the end time events of the book of Revelation. God created angels and at some point in time, some of them followed Satan in rebellion against God. In sinning against God, Lucifer and the angels that followed him, underwent a change in their very nature. Lucifer became Satan, (the Devil) and the rest became what is considered to be demons.

People sometimes ask the question concerning the universe, is anybody else out there?
According to the Bible the answer is yes. In the spirit realm there is a host of beings that worship and serve their creator, almighty God.

Angels are innumerable and as servants of God, they minister in behalf of God's people.
In the scriptures, angels can be found feeding God's servants, warring in behalf of Israel, speaking God's word, shutting the mouths of lions, letting Peter out of prison etc. etc.

Angels are not babies that have died.
Angels are not good people that have died
Angels are very powerful beings created by God, for God

In this teaching I hope to present the reader with a basic understanding, concerning angels.

Bad Angels - Fallen

The ruler of fallen angels is Satan, let us look at his fall.

Isaiah 14:12-15  How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! [how] art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

Ezekel 28:13-17  Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone [was] thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.
14 Thou [art] the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee [so]: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
15 Thou [wast] perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.
16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.
17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.

Other angels were cast out of heaven with Satan.

Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Satan and his fallen angels have an order and rank, much like an army.

Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places].

Some of the works of Satan and demons (fallen angels).

Number one priority is to keep people in spiritual blindness.

2Co 4:3-4  But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Eph 4:18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

Some things to understand

One must realize that this world is lost in sin and Satan is the god of this world, that people who have not accepted Christ as their Savior are enslaved by sin to Satan.

Jesus Christ is the only escape from this enslavement. (John 14:6, Acts 4:12)

Notice:

Col 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated [us] into the kingdom of his dear Son:

What Jesus said to Apostle Paul  concerning his ministry.

Act 26:18 To open their eyes, [and] to turn [them] from darkness to light, and [from] the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

Some of Satan's tricks in keeping people blind to the truth.

2Co 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

2Co 11:15 Therefore [it is] no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Satan works through unregenerate mankind by way of the news media, schools and universities, governments, religions, etc.

Ultimately  the intent of his propaganda campaign is to keep people from the truth of Jesus Christ.

1Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

Satan's desire for the church (born again believers) is to see that our light is extinguished. When churches cease to preach the gospel to the lost then the lost have no light shining to them. What good is a light house with no light?

Just how does a church lose it's vision, direction, true purpose?

The above scripture 1Tim.4:1 - seducing spirits and doctrines of devils (demons)

What does the Bible say concerning the church? Why are we here? Notice what our Lord and Savior said to us in:

Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.

Mat 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

The church is not an organization of do-gooders but is the body of Christ here on earth to carry on the work of the Lord, proclaiming the gospel to a lost world and making disciples the believers.

Christ is the answer to the Lost;  now if you were Satan, what would you do?

Other Priorities of Satan

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have [it] more abundantly.

All through the Gospels (Matthew - John) we see Jesus casting out demons, and healing people.

Please notice:

Acts 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Just reading a local newspaper, the 6:00 news and one quickly realizes that this world is under an evil influence, praise God that the Lord Jesus came to set the captives free!

As I have already said, this teaching only offers the very basics of this subject; reading the Gospels and the book of Acts will truly expound on this subject.

Good Angels

Hebrews 1:13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?
14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

Through out the Bible we see angels ministering in behalf of God's people. From the Old Testament to the New, the people of God have been helped in one way or another by these servants of God.

Some Old Testament instances:

Gen 19:1 And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing [them] rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;

Genesis 21:17 And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he [is].
18 Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation. 19 And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink.

Genesis 28:12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

Judges 6:12 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD [is] with thee, thou mighty man of valour.

Judges 6:22 And when Gideon perceived that he [was] an angel of the LORD, Gideon said, Alas, O Lord GOD! for because I have seen an angel of the LORD face to face.

Daniel 6:22 My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.

Some New Testament instances:

In the life of the Lord Jesus

Matthew 1:20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Luke 1:26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name [was] Mary.
28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, [thou that art] highly favoured, the Lord [is] with thee: blessed [art] thou among women.
29 And when she saw [him], she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. 31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
32
He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

Luke 2:8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12 And this [shall be] a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

Matthew 4:11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

Luke 22:43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

In the early church

Act 5:18 And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison. 19 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,
20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

Act 10:3 He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.

Act 12:6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.
7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon [him], and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from [his] hands.
8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.
9 And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.
10 When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.

Act 27:23 For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,
24 Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.

Psalms 91:11 For He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

A closing statement:

Angels are under the command and authority of God not man. They receive their instructions from God according to his divine sovereign will. I have heard Christians giving commands to angels as if they are to obey us, God is not going to place these powerful beings at our beck and call. Would you or I give a little child a 12 gauge shotgun fully loaded? Why not? Think about it.
