3. Priorities

4. Contentment

5. stewardship

6. Personal duties

7. Giving

Luke 6:38  Give, and it shall be given unto you, good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

The faith message seems to dominate most Christian TV programs, they use this scripture to entice the viewers to give with the promise of reaping a bountiful harvest. The problem with their teaching is that they rarely mention the others principles that must be at work as well.

If a Christian is walking in love, taking care of personal responsibilities, being a good steward, has his or her priorities in order, is content with Jesus, etc. then this principle of God's word will work.

God looks for a giving heart, that delights in blessing others, more then self.

Philippians 2:3  Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than themselves.
4 Do not let each man look upon his own things, but each man also on the things of others. 5 For let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,

2Corinthians 8:9  For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, for your sakes He became poor, in order that you might be made rich through His poverty.

Giving that comes from a heart of love, is good seed sown.

Some promises from God's word

2Corinthians 9:6 But I say this, He who sows sparingly shall also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully shall also reap bountifully.
7 Each one, as he purposes in his heart, let him give; not of grief, or of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Proverbs 19:17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.

Proverbs 22:9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

Hebrews 13:16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

One time I opened my closet door and I remember saying. "Lord why do I have all these shoes" (I must have had twenty pair) I heard the Lord say to my heart, I never gave all them to you;  for you. Most of them weren't even my proper size, I was just hoarding them up.

I took most of them to church and gave them to people who needed them. I learned a valuable lesson. Sometimes God will entrust something to us for someone else. If there is an area that you are abundantly blessed, consider: is it for me or others? If it is for others it will become an  annoyance  to you. All those shoes were in my way, etc.

A Principle of God's kingdom. He gives seed to the sower and blesses the seed that is sown.

Another promise

Mal 3:8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.

Mal 3:9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.

Mal 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

Mal 3:11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.

Proverbs 3:9 Honor the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

Giving to Jesus

Matthew 25:37-40   Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

I would like to close with this:

The other night my daughter shared this story with me. "Dad when I worked at that gas station, there was a man that asked me for food, I bought him a don nut and a cup of coffee. I felt this real warm good feeling right here, (she holds her hands to her chest) and you know, I still feel it all these years later."

A little treasure of joy in her soul. Hallelujah!

Matthew 19:21 Jesus said to him, If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in Heaven. And come, follow Me.

Many years ago, I begin to notice that my Pastor's wife wore the same dress to church all the time. I felt impressed by the Holy Spirit to give to her the forty dollars that I had saved in the back of my wallet. As the Lord dealt with my heart I felt very warm, good feelings but I was not obedient to the Lord. I had saved that money to purchase something that I wanted; I don't even remember what it was.

The following week the Pastor's wife stood up and testified how the sisters in the church had bought her a couple of new dresses. I just sunk down in my seat, for I had robbed her and myself of a blessing. The joy of the sisters in that church far out weighed the satisfaction that I got from____________ whatever it was, I don't remember but I do remember their joy.

I don't give to every hand that is thrust out. I believe we should always give when the Holy Spirit deals with our heart, even if we don't understand it.
