1. In Christ's Image 2. Looking to Jesus 3. Jesus Son of man 4. Jesus our example
5. The child of God 6. In the Potters hand 7. Completion

Luke 2:52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

Jesus the Son of Man had to grow and increase just as any other man.

Hebrews 2:10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
11 For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,

Hebrews 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

The word perfect means complete. To identify with humanity The Lord Jesus had to experience humanity and through it all, never sinned.

Notice

Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (ESV)

Through Jesus Christ we can approach God with every situation; confident that He understands and can relate to our problem because The Lord Jesus suffered and knows what it feels like.

Some things about Jesus

Born of a virgin

Isaiah 7:14   Therefore, the Lord himself shall give you a sign; behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a Son and shall call his name Emmanuel.

Matthew 1:18   Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: when as his mother  Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of  the Holy Ghost.

Because Jesus was conceived without a human father, He was born without the original sin nature that came through Adam.

Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Lived a sinless life

1 Peter 2:22   Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth.

1 John 3:5   And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.

Never functioned as Deity

Colossians 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

Although Jesus was also God the Son, He never functioned or used His Deity in His mission to saved lost humanity. He did it all as a sinless man under the Law and by the indwelling Holy Spirit. He voluntarily laid aside His Deity, although He retained it.

The Kenosis (divine emptying of Jesus Christ is found in the following: (made himself of no reputation, is Greek for kneoo which means to empty.)

Philippians 2:6-8 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
 2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Philippians 2:6 Although he was in the form of God and equal with God, he did not take advantage of this equality. (God's word translation)

As said above, the divine emptying of Jesus Christ does not mean that He never retained His
Deity as the Son of God, it means that He never used that position in His earthly ministry.

Everything that He did and accomplished was by the Power of the Holy Spirit, from His position as the Son of Man, who was totally sinless. As the Son of man He had limitations as can be seen in the following:

Mark 13:32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

Luke 8:45-46 And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
46 And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.

John 5:19  Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.

There are some people who would question the Deity of Jesus Christ by asking the question
"if Jesus Christ was God then who did He pray to?" In asking this, it is shown that they do not understand the Humanity side of Jesus. As a man, He prayed to God the Father just as you and I do.

Jesus Anointed By the Holy Spirit

Luke 4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, (see Luke 4:1-13)

In the wilderness Jesus overcame the devil and returned in Power of the Holy Spirit.

Luke 4:14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.

Please notice

Matthew 12:28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.

Luke 4:18-19  The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

Luke 11:20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.

John 14:10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

Act 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Our Lord retained the power (authority, right, privilege to forgive sins while here on earth)

Matthew 9:2 And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.

Mark 2:5-7 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy
sins be forgiven thee.
6 But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,
7 Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?

Mar 2:8-11 And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?
9 Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?
10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)
11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.

Made like unto His brethren

Hebrews 2:14-17 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.
17 Wherefore in all things it behooved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
