Partakers of the Inheritance

Back

Colossians 1:12-13  Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet (fit) to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

This teaching will cover some of these points:

1. Our condition before Christ
2. Now that we have accepted Christ
3. Keys to accessing the blessings in Christ

Praise God we are no longer chained in darkness by sin and under the rule of Satan. Thank you Lord Jesus for setting the captives FREE!

God has delivered us (Christians) and has translated us into the kingdom of God. Jesus Christ is now head over us.  I would like to take a look at some of the things God our Father has done in our behalf, in Christ.

To appreciate God's blessing we must understand our condition before we accepted Christ into our lives. In the following scriptures Apostle Paul describes our condition.

When we get a grasp of what The Lord Jesus has done we can't help but fall to the ground, bow our heads in adoration, before the presence of His Majesty. Wonderful! Wonderful! Wonderful! Jesus!

1. Our condition before Christ

Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins

Ephesians 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

Ephesians 2:3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

Ephesians 2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

Praise God for the following scriptures!

Ephesians 1:6  To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

Ephesians 1:7  In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

Ephesians 2:4  But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

Ephesians 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us (made us alive) together with Christ, by grace ye are saved;

We are no longer alienated from God. Through the blood of Christ we have been forgiven of all our sins and been accepted by God as His children. (see the following)

Galatians 3:26  For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 4:6  And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Rom 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
Rom 8:16
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.

A few things concerning:

Our condition before accepting Christ Our condition after accepting Christ
1. Lost in sin 1. Forgiven of our sins
2. In spiritual darkness 2. Translated into God's kingdom
3. Under Satan's rule 3. Made us fit to partake of His inheritance
4. Without God in our lives 4. Made us His children
5. Children of wrath

2. Now that we have accepted Christ

The scriptures say that In Christ we have been blessed with ALL spiritual blessings. Many of the blessings will not be realized until Christ returns for us, (such as a glorified body) but there are many blessings that we can ascertain now in this life. Some are automatic such as we are God's children. One of the blessings is that we can ask God our Father in the name of Jesus and receive in answer to prayer.

I would suggest that you read through the books of Ephesians and Colossians and mark all the passages that you find that say such things as this:

In Christ
In the beloved
With Christ
In Whom

A few examples are as follows:

Ephesians 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

2Corinthians 5:17  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Romans 8:17  And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Ephesians 1:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

These kind of scriptures let us know what God has legally done in behalf of the believer in Christ Jesus. As God's children we can ask in the name of Jesus and receive answers to prayer based upon the blessings that Jesus Christ purchased by His own blood.

One may ask what about the things we need in this life, notice what apostle Paul wrote under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

Philippians 4:19  But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Jesus has purchased everything that we need that pertains to life and godliness.

2Peter 1:3  According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

We believe that there is a heaven, we believe that we have eternal life etc. But do we believe that God will meet our needs here on earth?

Let us look at some of the keys that we need to use, to release the blessings of God. Remember, in Christ they already belong to us, we just need to apply the right principles to receive them.

3. Keys to accessing the blessing.

Matthew 6:33  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Seek first the kingdom of God, As Christians you and I have been translated into God's kingdom. What does this mean? How does God's kingdom work? etc.

If we never seek, how will we find out? The answers are found in God's word, the Bible.

His righteousness, please notice:

Psalms 84:11 ............... no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

Even though we are blessed with all blessings, God may withhold them if we are living a sinful life style.

Notice:

James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you, good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

Giving is a key (principle) of God's kingdom. God looks at our hearts when we give.

2Corinthians 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

John 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

To abide in Christ is to live, to dwell, to remain in Christ. To abide in His word is to live our lives by His word. To be influenced by God's word in every part of our lives.

1John 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

These are just three keys among many, it is a combination of these principles working together that helps us to stand in faith and receive from God.

Search the following scriptures and look for other keys (kingdom principles).

Matthew 22:37-39  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all
thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

Matthew 7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

1Peter 3:7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honor unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

1Peter 3:10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:

Hebrews 11:6   But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

1 John 1:9   If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Matthew 7:1-3   Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2.  For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3.  And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

1 John 5:14-15   And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
15.  And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the  petitions that we desired of him.

1 John 3:22   And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

Mark 11:24   Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

James 1:6-7   But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7.  For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

Proverbs 22:9   He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

Proverbs 3:9-10   Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
10.  So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

2Thessalonians 3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
